Yeah. I realize I've been gone like, forever. Summer's been pretty eventful :)

First off, I had a solo show at my school's student union gallery, which was absolutely awesome. I was so thrilled by how many people showed up, and all the sweet comments left in the guestbook! (All the pages were filled, and the show has another week!) Not to mention the food that the gallery provided was most delightful. Oh, yeah, and the art:

I got some new shoes, and am attempting to get into a walking/running routine. I got a late start and got cut short by sunset, so I only got to scamper about for a couple of miles. I feel good, though :D

I'm having a solo exhibition in one of our school's main galleries next year!!

It'll feature some 25-30 pieces, primarily ink and acrylic on large pieces of wood :D

I'm gonna have a busy summer! I guess I will officially have to do a part time as opposed to full time job this summer if I ever hope to get all my stuff done!

Since we have to use Photoshop AND the scanner, I suppose I'll be coming up with some sort of texture to scan and lightly overlay on this. I also have to crop the image to be 6 by 6, even though I would really just as soon leave it alone. Ah, rubrics, you seek to destroy me.

If only you could have seen the looks I got while we were shooting this. Granted, I guess it is a little unusual to see girls in white dresses holding dead fish hanging around in a parking lot next to a fence XD

I think I am going to take a semi-art break. I'm not going to stop drawing, but I really need to step back and draw from life for a while. My work doesn't feel "grounded" right now, if that makes any sense. As a result, my posts would probably be boring. But that's okay, I don't think anyone but hito reads this journal anyway, so there~

Christmas was good, gotta new camera :) I kind of don't know a lot about technical photography; I'm okay with composition, but that's about it. But I'm really trying to make the effort to know this camera inside and out! I wonder what I'm going to take pictures of in gainesville? I wonder what people are going to LET me take pictures of them in gainesville? :P I need to make really close bonds with some of my art buddies so they'll be willing to let me shoot them in strange situations...

I've been cleaning up my room at home, and I've dug up a lot of really old pictures; it's terrifying how bad I was! My sketchbook from senior year looks horrible too, it's a wonder how on earth I ever came up with a successful portfolio after that. I think that was before I really understood the joy of sketchbooking, and that combining weird materials can actually be beautiful and interesting and not just a bunch of busywork crap collages due each week. IIIIII didn't get that, and I kind of really want to throw that sketchbook away, but I haven't yet. I was finally able to let go of a huge drawer of crap full of stuff from 5th-11th grade that I can't imagine why I was keeping. If I could just throw all my AP stuff from junior year away, I'd be so free of a huge, haunting, you-sucked-then-maybe-you-suck-now burden. I don't want to hold onto by old artjunk,I want to start fresh

Pros:
-All art, no general education :P
-Fridays are free! Since studios only happen in mon/wed or tues/thurs sections, art majors typically have fridays free.
-Thursday is almost non-existent
-I got all the classes I need to stay on track for my major, which is not always easy

Cons:
-Monday and Wednesday HOLY WHAT. I mean, the classes sound good but seriously 8:30 am to 10:20 pm with no longer than 50 min. breaks in between classes sounds slightly grueling.
-Digital imaging and digital boot camp in the same semester is kind of weird, seeing as how one is the pre-requisite of the other. That and no one I know will be in that class : (
-I can't wait to take figure drawing! I wanted that instead of Dig. Imaging, but that did not happen : ( Oh well, there's still some hope during drop/add period...Plus I think there's a figure drawing lab on friday that anyone can go to for practice, so I can satiate my portfolio with the evidence of basic drawing skills it so desperately needs. hmm.

Damn, the cons section looks longer, but I'm honestly pretty happy about my schedule : )

So yeah, the butterfly thing is complete. We had a really open ended assignment; just go out and do something you normally wouldn't do, and respond to it artistically. I went to a butterfly sanctuary, and ended up doing sort of a mock add for the Florida Natural History Museum, playing off how they celebrate the lives of the butterflies by hosting them in a sanctuary, and not just their death by displaying taxidermies on the wall. I hope they don't magically find this and sue me for using their name XD

Ryan and I went to a butterfly sanctuary (it was research for a project) and I took a bunch of really clear butterfly macro shots...and when I checked my camera, most of them were mysteriously gone o_o I have no idea what happened, and I'm sure I didn't delete them myself. fuck the what.

So yeah, art post will be late, seeing as how I took most of the pictures with my camera. I'll post pictures of my project in progress within the next day, though.
